Vietnamese Badminton Secures Two Tickets to 2024 Paris Summer Olympics
Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Linh and Le Duc Phat ranked 17th and 37th in the latest Badminton World Federation rankings with 48,350 and 23,630 points, respectively, securing their spots to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer, VNA reported, citing the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Department of Sports and Physical Training on April 30.
This is the predicted result based on the accumulated points of the two players, however this result will only be firmly confirmed when the Badminton World Federation officially announces it.

According to the regulations of the Badminton World Federation, to win tickets to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics in the men's singles and women's singles category, athletes must be in groups ranked from 1 to 34 of the Olympic qualifying rankings and not world rankings. In particular, from rank No. 1 to 16, each country is allowed a maximum of 2 athletes to participate while rank No. 17 to 34 have a maximum of 1 person.
According to this regulation, Thuy Linh, world No. 24, currently has 48,350 points and places No 17 in the Race to Paris Ranking, qualified to win an official spot. This is the second time in her career that Nguyen Thuy Linh has appeared at the Olympic Games. The first time was at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
In the men's event, Le Duc Phat ranked 34th, thereby also winning another official spot. This is the first time in his career that Le Duc Phat has competed in the global largest sporting event.
Since 2022, both Linh and Phat have set their own determination to participate in various international tournaments in order to accumulate their individual points and achieve a good position on the Badminton World Federation rankings.

Currently, the players are focusing on training inside the country. They also plan to compete in some international tournaments in May and June to best preparation for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
So far, Vietnam has secured 10 official slots to participate in the Olympics, including badminton, shooting, swimming, cycling, weightlifting, boxing, canoeing, and rowing.
Vietnam set a target of having at least 12 places in the upcoming Olympics. Athletes in martial arts, athletics, table tennis, gymnastics, and boxing are preparing for their qualification rounds in the next few weeks, hoping to achieve this goal.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will commence on July 26-7 and conclude on August 11. Vietnam aims to secure at least one medal.
