On behalf of the authority and people of Koh Kong, Tou Savuth, provincial deputy governor receives the donation from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province.

Through the Executive Committee of the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Koh Kong province, on June 15, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province presented 7,500 face masks to the Koh Kong province to support it in fighting against the novel coronavirus. On behalf of the authority and people of Koh Kong, Tou Savuth, provincial deputy governor received the gift.

In addition, with the contributions of sponsors and benefactors at home and overseas, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province is continuing to provide relief aid to the Vietnamese community in Cambodia.

On the evening of June 13, the Consulate General handed over 2 tons of rice to the Executive Committee of the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Koh Kong to assist Vietnamese families in the province who have suffered difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Koh Kong province confirmed 161 Covid-19 community transmissions on June 14. The new infections were not only detected in the Sre Ambel district but also in neighboring localities.

On June 13, Hoa Sen restaurant, owned by a Vietnamese, presented face masks and necessities to disadvantaged Cambodians and Vietnamese Cambodians in Chamkar Mon and Prampi Makara districts in Phnom Penh capital.

Le Manh Hung, the owner of Hoa Sen restaurant, said the third wave of Covid-19 had exerted adverse impacts on people in Cambodia, especially the poor, according to Vietnamplus.

Through the restaurant, a number of Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia and benefactors present gifts twice a month to help them to surmount difficulties.

Amid the complex Covid-19 situation in Cambodia, Vietnamese Cambodians have received great assistance from benefactors which shows affection and solidarity among fellow countrymen.

Previously, on the morning of June 8, responding to the call of President, Prime Minister, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of Vietnam and the Executive Committee of the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Preah Sihanouk province launched a program to raise funds for Vietnam’s Covid-19 vaccine fund.

At the ceremony, Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly briefed participants on the pandemic situation in Vietnam. He also appealed for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia in general and in southwestern provinces in particular (including Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong, Takeo and Kampong Speu) to contribute to Vietnam’s national Covid-19 vaccine fund.

On the first day of launching, the program collected more than US$ 2000.

The program will last until the end of June.

Cambodia's Covid-19 case tally has risen to 40,157 on Wednesday after 693 new infections were reported across the country in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Seven more fatalities were confirmed, taking the death toll to 368, the ministry said, adding that 754 more patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 34,325.

Cambodia has been enduring the third wave of Covid-19 community transmission since Feb. 20. In a bid to flatten the infection curve, the country has closed down all schools, fitness centers, museums, cinemas, and entertainment venues nationwide.

The Southeast Asian nation launched an anti-Covid-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10.

To date, some 3.07 million out of the 10-million targeted adult population have received the first Covid-19 vaccine dose, the health ministry's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said, adding that 2.6 million of them have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
