Vietnamese fruits have been introduced at the Fruit Logistica, the world largest fruit and vegetable exhibition in the world, which is underway in Berlin from February 8-10, VNA reported.

This is the third year that Vietnam participates in the world's largest fresh fruit products exhibition, with 10 enterprises in the field of fruit and vegetable production and processing for export. Maintaining the presence of the Vietnamese pavilion at the annual Fruit Logistica has a ripple effect on Vietnamese agricultural products in general and fruit and vegetable products in particular.

The Vietnamese booth at the exhibition, jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) Trade Promotion Agency, the Vietnam Trade Office in Berlin, and the Vietnam Fruit Association (Vinafruit), attracted a large number of visitors right in the first day of the event.

This is the third year that Vietnam has joined the exhibition.

On February 8, a trade exchange was held between the Vietnamese enterprises with members of Germany’s Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW), German firms, and Vietnamese companies in Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Highlighting the increasing competitiveness of Vietnamese products’ competitiveness, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh said he hopes the firms will optimize preferential tax rates from free trade agreements to boost exports of fruits and vegetables in the promising German market.

He pledged that the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnam Trade Office will give the best support to Vietnamese firms in connecting with their peers in Germany to strengthen exports to Germany and the EU in general, thus optimizing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Vinafruit Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh said that the international exhibition in Germany is a good opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to expand their markets as well as develop Vietnam's fruit and vegetable industry.

According to Binh, fruit and vegetable products, mostly fruits from Vietnam, have many advantages.

With famous fruit specialties favored by many European customers, Vietnamese stalls attracted and became the busiest destination on the first day of the fair. Currently, Vietnam is still developing to expand its market share in Europe. Data from the MoIT showed that after the EVFTA took effect, Vietnam’s exports of fruits to Europe has risen 25-30%.

Tran Van Cong, a Vietnamese Trade Councillor in Germany said that the EU has been an important and promising market with annual consumption of over USD 110 billion worth of goods. However, Vietnam’s fruit export revenue from the market is still modest at over USD 200 million, accounting for only 0.02% of the EU’s spending on the product.

Underlining that the EVFTA, which brings the import tax of Vietnamese fruits to 0%, is offering great opportunities for Vietnam in the EU, he noted that last year, exports of fruits to the EU rose nearly 14%.

Cong advised domestic firms to focus on developing farming areas as well as the preservation stage, ensuring that Vietnamese products are origin-traceable, and meeting the requirements of the EU.

At the event, the Vinafruit and BVMW signed a memorandum of understanding on supporting businesses of both sides to strengthen cooperation in fruit export and distribution in the German market.

Fruit Logistica is the world’s leading trade fair for fresh produce. More than 40,000 trade visitors from 132 countries and almost 2,000 exhibitors from 87 countries participated in the last show.

In reply to German lawmakers’ questions about bilateral development cooperation, the German Government said it considers Vietnam to have global and regional importance.

It is necessary to cooperate with Vietnam to provide goods and solve future global problems, such as combating climate change, protecting forests, conserving biodiversity, and maintaining sustainable supply chains and economic development.

Overall, the German Government regarded development cooperation with Vietnam as "successful", and the quality of cooperation and the effectiveness of the "triangular cooperation" with Vietnam as "very good".
