Voted by Futsal Planet, Ho Van Y has entered the list of 10 candidates for the title of the best futsal goalkeeper in 2021 thanks to his shining performance at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

According to News Fox 24, this is the second time the goalkeeper born in 1997 is in the shortlist. Before that, he was nominated in 2018. Van Y is also the youngest person to be nominated this year at the age of 25.

The Quang Nam goalkeeper and the Vietnamese team for the second time passed the group stage of the World Cup 2021 in Lithuania. This achievement cannot be compared with other colleagues.

Ho Van Y has to compete with Leonardo De Melo Vieira Leite “Higuita”, who has won this title 4 times. Leonardo “Higuita” plays for the Kazakhstan futsal team. The other Asian goalkeeper is Alireza Samimi of Iran futsal team. Samimi was born in 1987. He was ranked third in the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

As vietnamnet reported, in 2021, goalkeeper Van Y made an impressive performance at the FIFA Futsal World Cup. He helped the Vietnamese team cruise into the Round of 16 and only lose 2-3 to powerhouses Russia. In Vietnam, Van Y and his club Thai Son Nam won the National Futsal Championship for the sixth time in a row. The Futsal World Cup 2021 in Lithuania was Vietnam’s second time the tournament. They made it past the group stage both times.

This is the second time in his career that goalkeeper Van Y has entered the top 10 nominees list for the Best Goalkeeper in the World. In 2018 the Vietnamese goalkeeper was also nominated in the top 10 by futsalplanet.com, but he failed to finish in the top 5. In the colour of the national team at that time, from a potential keeper, the 1997-born goalie has matured and surpassed veterans Ngo Dinh Thuan and Nguyen Van Huy to become the no. 1 choice of coach Miguel Rodrigo.

In addition to the Futsal Planet nomination, as nhandan reported, Ho Van Y swept many different titles after returning from the World Cup campaign. Most recently, he was honoured as one of the 14 outstanding young citizens of Ho Chi Minh City in 2021, and among the outstanding Vietnamese athletes of the year.

Ho Van Y is currently a favourite for the Vietnam Futsal Golden Ball 2021 Award, to be announced next month. He took the Silver Ball Award twice in 2018 and 2020.
