Olivier Langlet, General Director of Central Retail Vietnam, noted that Vietnamese lychee is well known for its best quality, saying his company aims to build a stable market for fruit in Thailand.

Earlier, a batch of three tonnes of Luc Ngan lychees was shipped to Thailand by Central Retail on July 10. Each kilogram of the fruit is sold at the price of VND173,000 VND ($7.5 USD).

Luc Ngan lychees had been exported to Thailand for the first time on June 30, 2017. Since then, the fruit has been favored in the country.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh said this year’s shipment is expected to help facilitate the export of more Vietnamese fruits to Thailand and attract tourists from a third country to both Vietnam and Thailand.

Central Retail Vietnam and the Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee inked a cooperation agreement on lychee consumption this year on May 16, targeting about 300 tons.

Lychee is grown in many localities in Vietnam, mostly northern localities, with Bac Giang dubbed the kingdom of the fruit.

The province harvested 199,500 tons of lychee in 2022 and earned nearly VND 6.8 trillion from lychee sales and support services, reported the provincial People’s Committee.

Bac Giang lychee has affirmed its brand and value in many countries and territories around the world with 75,900 tons shipped abroad, making up 38.1% of the accumulative sales.

The Luc Ngan lychee brand has been popular not only in the domestic market but also in major markets worldwide such as China, Japan, the EU, the US, and Australia.

Since obtaining a certificate of geographical indication (GI) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) in March 2021, Thieu lychee grown in Luc Ngan district has seen its competitiveness and export volume significantly rising in foreign markets./.
