Vietnamese NOC discusses two options for APF 2020

The Vietnamese National Organizing Committee (NOC) organized a meeting on 24 June 2020 in Hanoi to prepare for ASEAN People’s Forum (APF) 2020.

The ACSC/APF 2019 in Thailand, from September 10-12, with the participation of approximately 1,100 regional delegates.

More than 60 participants who are members of the NOC and representatives of Vietnamese people organizations attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the topic, thematic clusters and tentative agenda of APF 2020, as well as the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the Regional Organizing Committee.

In the context of COVID-19, participants also discussed two options for APF 2020, which is scheduled for October 2020. Accordingly, if the pandemic is controlled, APF 2020 will be organised in the traditional way. Otherwise, there will be the first online APF since it was first organised in Malaysia in 2005.

The meeting also decided to convene an online regional consultative meeting in preparation for APF 2020 in late July 2020.

The last APF 2019 which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 10-12, with the participation of approximately 1,100 regional delegates.

During the forum, attendees discussed a host of issues relating to peace and security, migration, employment, health and social protection, ecological sustainability, innovation, and emerging technology.

The Vietnamese delegation consisting of activists from a variety of organisations involved in peace, security, environmental protection, climate change, economics, education, agriculture, immigration, the rights of women and children, and labour.

Several of the workshops at the ACSC/APF gave Vietnamese delegates the chance to share their experience in tackling related issues, in addition to offering ideas aimed at building a people-centred ASEAN Community, VOV reported.
