Viet Van's photo themed “Red Ball” wins Honorable Mention given out by the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2021.

Vietnamese photographer Tran Viet Van from Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper was among the Honorable Mentions given out by the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2021.

His photo themed “Red Ball” was duly honoured in the special section of the professional category.

The awards’ category is specifically for professional photographers who snap stunning images which make use of technical effects.

This marks the 10th time that Viet Van has been given an Honorable Mention at the prestigious IPA photo contest.

The winners of the IPA 2021 include “Photographer of the year” in the professional category and “Discovery of the year” in the non-professional category, both of which will be announced on Oct. 26 with cash prizes of US$ 10,000 and US$ 5,000, respectively.

Viet Van has won more than 60 international prizes throughout his career, including eight first prizes in France, the UK, the US and Australia.

In 2021, he also brought home an honourary certificate from the Spain’s competition Biennial International Digital Photojournalism 2021 for his single image titled “Do than nhiet” (body temperature check) in the category of photos on Covid-19.

The photo features a student at To Hoang Primary School in Hanoi, who is having her body temperature checked before entering the school after days of staying at home due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Three other photos of Viet Van also entered the finalist and are published in the competition’s catalogue.

In 2020, he won big at the first International Photography Awards of India’s Apawards, with a Golden Prize for his work “Little Angels” (tourism category), a Silver Prize for “Energy of Youth” (street category), along with two certificates of Honorable Mention for “Thinker” (portrait category) and “Ritual Practice” (freedom category); three gold medals at the Bugis Photo Cup Circuit 2020 in Malaysia.
