Anchovy Catching by Nguyen Ngoc Thien. Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2022

Nguyen Ngoc Thien was Highly Commended in the Bring Home the Harvest category with Anchovy Catching, an image taken in the Phu Yen province in which the soft light of day illuminates the long smoke from a fishing boat engine and the nets moving underneath the water’s surface.

This image also won Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year (South East Asia), an exciting new award introduced this year to celebrate the most outstanding images from South East Asia-based photographers.

The soft light of a new day illuminates the smoke from the fishing boat engine and the shape of green nets moving underneath the water surface when local fishermen pull in their nets. Many local fishing families along the coastline of Phu Yen province will follow the near-shore currents to catch anchovy during peak season. Salted anchovy is the most important raw ingredient used to create traditional fish sauce - the spirit of Vietnamese cuisine, wrote the photo description by Thien.
