Vietnamese Photographers Triumph in Intl' Food Photography Awards
Photographers from Vietnam have triumphed amongst the thousands of entries submitted from across the globe for this year's Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year, the world’s leading celebration of the art of food photography and film.

Nguyen Ngoc Thien was Highly Commended in the Bring Home the Harvest category with Anchovy Catching, an image taken in the Phu Yen province in which the soft light of day illuminates the long smoke from a fishing boat engine and the nets moving underneath the water’s surface.
This image also won Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year (South East Asia), an exciting new award introduced this year to celebrate the most outstanding images from South East Asia-based photographers.
The soft light of a new day illuminates the smoke from the fishing boat engine and the shape of green nets moving underneath the water surface when local fishermen pull in their nets. Many local fishing families along the coastline of Phu Yen province will follow the near-shore currents to catch anchovy during peak season. Salted anchovy is the most important raw ingredient used to create traditional fish sauce - the spirit of Vietnamese cuisine, wrote the photo description by Thien.

Second place in the new award was given to Nguyen Thong for ‘Meal With Meat’, which a H'mong family gathers around the kitchen, the children are very excited because today they can eat rice with the meat hanging in the kitchen.

Third place was awarded to Ly Hoang Long for ‘Charity Meal’, in which a boy enjoys soup cooked by a charity kitchen run by nuns from a church in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. Every sunday, the nuns from a church in Kontum (Vietnam) would prepared soup for around 50 kids in a remote village, that project aimed to increse the quality of food for poor children.
Prabu Mohan was Highly Commended for ‘Fish Farm’, an aerial view of a fish farm in Lan Ha bay, Vietnam.
The photo has been taken in Cai Beo fishing village in Lan Ha Bay, located in the east of Cat Ba Island, the northern city of Hai Phong. This village has about 300 families living on seafood farming and fishing. It is one of the ancient fishing villages in the region dating back to 4,500 years.

Tran Viet Van, also from Vietnam, was Highly Commended for ‘Going To The Market During Covid-19’, which captures a wholesale market in Hanoi's Old Quarter when Covid-19 broke out for the fourth time and people had to practice social distancing.
Small traders at the market have written down their products and phone numbers and hung them on the barrier for customers to choose what to buy. The Overall Winner of this year's competition was Kebabiyana, a smokey street food shot by Indian photographer Debdatta Chakraborty.

The winners were announced by globally acclaimed chef and co-presenter of UK Masterchef: The Professionals, Monica Galetti, in an exciting Awards ceremony that was live streamed on the competition’s YouTube channel on April 26.
It was watched by an audience across the globe, including celebrities from the food and photography world.
An exhibition of all the 2022 Finalists will be premiering at The Royal Photographic Society, one of the world’s oldest photographic societies, in Bristol, England.
