Vietnam's Friendship Organizations Send Condolences on the Passing of Raymonde Dien

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association (ACVF) have sent condolences to the France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AAFV) after received the news of the passing of Raymonde Dien - a member of the French Communist Party a faithful friend of the Vietnamese people.

Raymonde Dien, a symbol of the fight against the war by the French colonialists in Vietnam, passed away on August 19 at the age of 93.

The message from VUFO reads as follows:

Raymonde Dien passing away is a great loss for all of us. The Vietnamese people have lost a great and loyal friend, who always giving Vietnam full of her love. On behalf of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association, we would like to send our regards to the France-Vietnam Friendship Association and through the Association, to her family, friends and relatives, our deepest condolences.

She has bid us farewell to her final resting place, but her memory remains in each of us forever. Her life goes down in history books as a testament to the people's friendship between France and Vietnam. The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnamese people's friendship organizations will continue to cultivate the traditional friendship between Vietnam and France, striving for a world of peace, freedom and equality, prosperity and happiness.

Raymonde Dien joined other French communists in their support to the Vietnamese people in their fight against the French colonialists and US imperialists, for the struggle for peace for Vietnam.

Born on May 13, 1929 in Mansigne, Sarthe province in western France, Raymonde Dien inherited the tradition of fighting for peace, as father was also a member of the French Communist Party. She soon participated in political and social activities and became a member of the French Communist Party at the age of 18.

During the 1950s, the French people nationwide actively participated in the anti-war movement conducted by the French colonialists in Vietnam and Indochina. The progressive people of the world and Vietnamese were deeply moved by her courageous act of lying on the rail to block a train carrying tanks and other weapons to Indochina on February 23, 1950.

Despite the difficulties caused by the colonial government, being interrogated, detained, but Raymonde Dien always turned her heart to Vietnam, many years later, continued to work with the people to progress in France and in the world and supported Vietnam peace and reunification.

She visited Vietnam for the first time in 1956, having a touching meeting with President Ho Chi Minh. Since then, her feelings for Vietnam have deepened.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met Raymonde Dien on March 26, 2018 on the occasion of his official visit to the French Republic.

On September 2, 2004, she was decorated with a Friendship Order by the Vietnamese state.

Until the last years of her life, despite her advanced age and infirmity, she always showed affection for Vietnam by participating in activities of friendship associations to strengthen solidarity and friendship between the two peoples, helping Vietnamese people overcome the consequences of war, especially support for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Vietnam.
