(VNF) - Vietnam’s National Day and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties was marked in Yaoude, the capital of Cameroon on August 30th.

The event took place in celebration of the 72nd anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2nd, 1945) and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Cameroon (August 30th, 1972).

The event was attended by Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, representatives from foreign embassies and international organisations in the host country, and Vietnamese people in the country.

At the meeting, Ambassador of Vietnam to Cameroon and Nigeria, Pham Anh Tuan thanked the Government and people of Cameroon for their support to Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation and construction. He lauded Cameroon’s coordination with Vietnam at international forums.

The Ambassador also highlighted positive developments in the relationship between both countries recent years.

On behalf of the guests, Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella congratulated Vietnam on the National Day.

He lauded Vietnam’s attainments in socio-economic development with GDP growth reaching 6.21 per cent in eight months of this year and likely hitting 6.7 per cent for the whole year.

He also praised the initial success of the Vietnamese-invested projects in Cameroon, which contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country, while promising to continue assisting investors.

Earlier, during the April 11th-13th tour, as part of activities to mark the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Cameroon diplomatic relations, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam made a three-day visit to Cameroon as special envoy of President Tran Dai Quang to boost ties between the two countries, especially in trade and investment.

The two sides expressed delight at the progress of negotiations on the double-taxation avoidance and investment encouragement agreements in early March this year in Hanoi.

Both consented to promote business delegation exchanges and celebrate 45 years of bilateral diplomatic ties this year.

Vietnam expects to cooperate with Cameroon in rice trading and industrial cooperation./.
