Located in the southwestern province of Kien Giang, Phu Quoc Island is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Vietnam. It is known as Pearl Island and is identified as an eco-tourism center for those who love to explore nature.

Part of the larger UNESCO-recognized Kien Giang Biosphere Reserve, the island has no shortage of flora and fauna. While over half of the teardrop-shaped island comprises Phu Quoc National Park, a dense tropical jungle draped around scenic mountains, its many beaches remain the main attraction.

In August, Phu Quoc also has been selected as one of the 25 best islands in the world by readers of the US magazine Travel+Leisure, VNA reported.

According to the magazine, readers' enthusiasm for the island stems from "its white-sand beaches and delectable food."

The island is renowned for its production of fish sauce, an indispensable Vietnamese condiment, and peppercorns. Other attractions include its coral reefs and dense tropical forest, the magazine wrote.

In 2019, CNN had recommended nine “things to do in Phu Quoc, Vietnam's top island getaway”, including Go driving; Dining at Ham Ninh fishing village; Go kayaking; Take a trek, Visit a farm; Catch an unforgettable sunset; Go squid fishing; Head to the night market; and Ride the cable car.

Phu Quoc was chosen as one of the first destinations to reopen their doors to international visitors in an effort to recover the national tourism industry. The island city on November 20, 2021 welcomed the first international tourist group to Vietnam after nearly two years of the country’s “freezing status” due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thai Vietjet Air officially launched direct services between Phu Quoc resort island of Vietnam and Thailand’s capital city Bangkok on October 12, hoping to give a push to tourism recovery post-pandemic.
