VUFO, Friendship Association offers $200,000 in aid to Cambodia's Covid-19 fight

On the afternoon of May 12, in Hanoi, the delegation of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), the Central Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, led by VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga have handed over VND 500 million (about 21.600) raised by the friendship association to aid the Cambodian people in preventing the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the ceremony, Nga informed her host about the Covid-19 prevention and control situation in Vietnam; shared difficulties and efforts to prevent the pandemic of the Government and people of Cambodia.
Nga believes that, with the Royal Government's decisive and effective measures along with the consensus of the people and the support and assistance of the international community, the situation in Cambodia will quickly becomes under control.
Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Vuong Viet said that with the spirit of solidarity and sharing between friendly neighbors, the friendship association had, for the third time, sent dispatches to their chapters at the provincial and municipal level on raising money to support pandemic-affected people in Cambodia.
The call not only received valuable support from the association's members, but also from a large number of Vietnamese organizations and individuals who have feelings and care for the country and people of Cambodia, he stressed,
"In particular, we are deeply moved to receive the strong response and support from former leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam", Viet emphasized.
Sincerely thankful for the noble act of former leaders of the Party, State of Vietnam, leaders of VUFO, and Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association, Ambassador of Cambodia in Vietnam Chay Navuth emphasized that this is a very timely care and help, a great source of spiritual encouragement to help the Cambodian people overcome the difficult period, demonstrating thegood neighboring relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between the two countries Cambodia and Vietnam.

Facing the complicated situation of Covid-19 in Cambodia in recent months, VUFO and the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association sent a letter to the Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Association, Khmer-Vietnam Association in Cambodia and friends from the central to local levels and the entire Cambodian people, expressing their support and solidarity to Cambodian peers.
Also from the campaign results, the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association has set aside a sum of VND 100 million (USD 4.300) and medical supplies including 2,000 protective clothes, 50,0000 medical masks, and 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer gel, worth VND 203 million (USD 8.800) for Vietnamese people living in Cambodia. Hopefully, this small support will partly help people overcome difficulties and challenges caused by the Covid-19.
In last month, Vietnam has gifted Cambodia USD 200,000 for its fight against Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Health Ministry of Cambodia on May 12 announced 472 new Covid-19 cases – the highest-ever number recorded in a single day since the pandemic broke out in the country in January 2020.
The country has so far recorded over 20,695 Covid-19 cases, with 136 deaths. While it is one of the few countries in Asia to not suffer severely from the pandemic, the number of new cases in Cambodia has risen quickly after viral clusters hit Phnom Penh, then spread across the nation./.
