Lying at the foot of craggy rocky mountains, Nho Que river is as calm as a soft green thread winding, embracing the magnificent mountain slopes, creating a water-color painting beauty before of your eyes.
It originates from Yunnan (China), flows into Vietnam at the northernmost tip of Lung Cu commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province.
The characteristic blue color on the background of the dark rock plateau creates a divine scenery no nature lover can resist.
The legend of Nho Que river
Once upon the time, there was a big mountain in Ha Giang Loop that blocked the river effort from spreading life to the barren land on the other side, where was completely arid.
The River God was trying to negotiate with the Mountain God to asked him to move aside. However, the Mountain God pretended to be deaf and stayed silent for years. Knowi, the King of Heaven ordered the Thunder God to settle the situation. One day, the sky was scattered with deafening thunderbolts. The Thunder God swung down his sword to the mountain. Suddenly, there was an explosion that trembled the mountain and separated it into two.
The stream of water rushed around the valley and turned things ' alive ' as the hope of life kept going since then. This old tale became the legend of the charming Nho Que River.
Nho Que River cuts through Ma Pi Leng while the other side is Sam Pun. Major attractions when traveling to Nho Que River include Ma Pi Leng Peak and Tu San Abyss Alley.
More than a scenic spot, it is also a border river that marks the blood, sweat and tears of generations of Vietnamese people who fought to keep the land.
Tourists are very excited when learning about the belief and custom of the locals through stories and legends like so.

A shorter route to Ta Lang Pier is not advised due to its steep and dangerous elevation. Motorbike taxis cost VND150,000 ($6.47) and are recommended. The road down to the pier is about 8 km. It is small, slippery (during rainfall) and steep.
