Recently, cases that require the use of digital data as evidence have tended to increase, especially cases related to cybercrime, high technology use and human trafficking. However, in many cases, the judicial authorities did not accept digital evidence because the reliability and accuracy of the collected data did not guarantee the integrity of the evidence, according to Nguyen Minh Hieu, vice director of the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Foreign Relations) |
In addition to general knowledge, speakers from Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, UK, Australia and the International Criminal Police Organization shared practical experiences in detecting, tracking and collecting, preserving and processing digital evidence in the investigation, prosecution and trial of human trafficking cases.
These experiences help solve the case, and at the same time ensure the safety of the victim, especially protecting the confidentiality of personal information, and avoiding hurting them.
The documents in the workshop will also serve as a reference source in the work of criminal justice officials in Vietnam.
Recommendations at the workshop can also be used to send to Vietnamese authorities to improve the legal framework, especially the amendment of the Law on Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking.
