Attending the kick-off event were representatives of Hai Phong People's Committee, Department of Education and Training, Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Public Security, Ngo Quyen District People's Committee, Ngo Quyen District Department of Education and Training, together with representatives of 4 Project'starget high schools (Thai Phien, Thang Long, Marie Curie, and Maritime).

With a total value of USD 245,850, the "Improving Transferable Skills for Youth in Hai Phong" Project, sponsored by Samsung SDS Korea, will be implemented within 18 months (April 2022 - October 2023). The Project's Goal is to equip 600 high school students and 95 teachers in Ngo Quyen District with information technology skillset and other necessary soft skills to improve students' access, especially those from vulnerable groups, to better learning and employment opportunities.

"As the third-largest city in Vietnam, Hai Phong is one of the country's technological, economic, educational, scientific, and commercial centers. In the current digital age, more students in Hai Phong are pursuing computer science careers thanks to the early access to the STEM education programs (Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics) at schools," said Deputy Director of Hai Phong Department of Education and Training Do Van Loi.

"Although computer labs and computer learning programs have become familiar in many high schools, as part of the STEM curricula, we still need to improve teaching and learning capacity further to generate students' interest and ignite their passion for computer programming. Simultaneously, it is also fundamental to equip them with the tools and resources they need to develop STEM skills, allowing them to proactively embrace the 4.0 digital age's innovations," Mr. Loi added.

Faced with this situation and based on actual local needs, World Vision Vietnam will implement the Project by leveraging its network of monitoring and managing community-based activities and its long-term partnership with local authorities. This helps achieve the following two sets of results: (1) Improving the capacity of students and teachers in Information Technology, including computer programming, multimedia, digital marketing, web design, and (2) Developing the ability of students and teachers to apply soft skills to improve access to quality jobs (e.g., communication skills, online safety, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, and life skills).

“Besides supporting the set-up of computer rooms in schools, the ‘Improving Transferable Skills for Youth in Hai Phong’ Project aims to create a sustainable impact on the lives of children and the community. Specifically, creating opportunities for students to pursue higher education and enhancing teachers’ capacity to improve the training quality for future generations, in the long run, will help better the general well-being of the community, especially the most vulnerable groups. Moreover, this is also the premise for many integration opportunities with the world, bringing children life in all its fullness,” emphasized World Vision Vietnam’s Operations Director Than Thi Ha.

The "Improving Transferable Skills for Youth in Hai Phong" Project is expected to continue the essential and persistent contribution of World Vision Vietnam to the general development of Hai Phong City. Furthermore, in the direction of Vietnam's Socio-Economic and Education Development Strategies between 2021 and 2030, the Project will also contribute to improving Hai Phong's quality of human resources, especially in information technology to meet the city's needs for economic and technological growth.
