Yen Bai Plays Host to the Paragliding Festival in 2022

Known as a unique tourist destination in Yen Bai province, Mu Cang Chai will organize many activities in April and May 2022 to attract tourists.

From April 30, to promote attractive tourist spots and unique tourism products and restore and develop tourism in the Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province will host various activities on the “Unification Day” and “Flying over Rising Water on Terraced Paddies” in 2022.

These activities are to be held at the national scenic spot of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields.

Accordingly, from April 30 to May 28, a paragliding demonstration will be held. At 8:00 a.m. on May 14, the opening ceremony of the Paragliding Festival will be hosted at the top of Khau Pha pass at an altitude of more than 1,500m, and the landing point is located at Lim Mong village, Cao Pha commune, Mu Cang Chai district.

This allows visitors to fly by paragliding service and admire the panoramic view of terraced fields in the area.

In this program, visitors can also participate in community tourism activities and experience the cultural values ​​of the Thai and H’mong ethnic groups in the Northern part of the country.

Notably, visitors can take part in the terraced farming, discover community cultural values, and enjoy local products displayed in upland markets, namely men men (a specialty of the H’mong people, made from corn), banh day (a dish made from rice), pa pinh top (grilled stream fish, a specialty of the Thai people), sticky rice in five colors, dried meat, lam rice (rice put in the bamboo tubes and cooked over a fire), rice wine, black chicken, etc.

For many years, the Paragliding Festival “Flying over Rising Water on Terraced Paddies” has become a brand attracting tourists to the highlands of Mu Cang Chai.

Mu Cang Chai is a western highland district of Yen Bai province, 180km from Yen Bai city center, more than 300km northwest of Hanoi. This land is located at the foot of Hoang Lien Son mountain, at an altitude of over 2,000m above sea level. Traveling to Mu Cang Chai, visitors can go to Highway 32 in two directions.

From Hanoi, travelers can go to Yen Bai, then go to Muong Lo and sleep here for one night to drive early tomorrow morning; by the late afternoon, visitors will arrive at Mu Cang Chai. In the second direction, visitors go all the way to Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, to Sa Pa, and through O Quy Ho pass to reach Mu Cang Chai.

Coming to Mu Cang Chai, visitors can feel the richness of nature, the uniqueness of culture, and the warmth of local people. On the way to Mu Cang Chai, the scene and atmosphere change constantly. Visitors can see all the Thai stilt houses in the vast Muong Lo field with thousands of white banyan flowers, or the winding and meandering roads on the steep hillsides. Geological movements have created high peaks in Mu Cang Chai, namely the Pung Luong (2,985m), Phu Ba (2,512m), Mo De (2,100m), etc.

The beautiful small town of Mu Cang Chai is nestled between two mountain slopes with peaceful villages in the green valley or on the Khau Pha pass. Accounting for 90% of the district's population, the H’mong people in Mu Cang Chai have 4 groups: Mong Do (White Mong), Mong Du (Black Mong), Mong Linh (Chinese Mong), and Mong Si (Red Mong). They reside on the mountain slopes from 800 to 1,700m high with rich and traditional cultural features.

Coming here, travelers can visit the Mong ethnic villages, and discover the culture as well as the customs and habits of the Northwest highlands with many unique folk arts, cultural values ​​, and famous products. They can also watch the flute dance, go to the Sai San festival with Mong boys and girls, experience traditional crafts such as weaving with linen yarn, making jewelry, and enjoy the traditional dishes of the local people.

Besides, tourists can also the visit Thai village in Mu Cang Chai, a peaceful small village located in the middle of the valley, with its back leaning against the mountain.
