With the spirit of celebrating culinary art and fostering domestic and international friendships, what contributions does the Embassy of Morocco in Vietnam hope to bring to this year's International Culinary Festival?
The Embassy of Morocco in Vietnam is honored to continue its participation in the 2024 International Culinary Festival, a culturally significant and charitable event organized by the Diplomatic Corps Service Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Through this event, the Embassy aims to reinforce its mark in cultural diplomacy, contributing to mutual understanding while highlighting the unique essence of Morocco’s heritage.
More importantly, the festival provides a special opportunity for the Embassy to introduce the unique culinary art of Morocco to the Vietnamese public and international friends. Morocco is a crossroads of Arab, Amazigh, African, and Mediterranean cultures, and its cuisine reflects this diversity. We aim to present dishes rich in traditional flavors, offering an exciting culinary journey for all attendees.
Beyond the cultural aspects, the festival also promotes humanitarian values, as all proceeds will support community welfare projects. By participating, the Embassy of Morocco reaffirms the spirit of solidarity—a core value of its culture—while contributing to the festival's meaningful goals.
Could you share more about the challenges and advantages in preparing to bring Moroccan cuisine closer to the Vietnamese people?
Preparing for the 2024 International Culinary Festival comes with its challenges, particularly in authentically showcasing the richness and essence of Moroccan cuisine while ensuring an unforgettable experience for Vietnamese friends.
One significant challenge is the communal nature of Moroccan cuisine. Dishes like Tagine stews or Couscous are traditionally shared among families or groups, and serving them in smaller portions or as takeaways can compromise the authenticity and full experience for diners.
Moreover, Moroccan dishes are known for their intricate presentation, often served on large plates at specific temperatures to retain their flavors. The limited space in the festival’s stalls poses difficulties in meeting traditional serving standards, requiring us to adapt creatively.
Ingredient sourcing has also been a concern. Many essential components of Moroccan cuisine are hard to find in Vietnam, complicating efforts to preserve the original flavors.
Despite these challenges, the Embassy of Morocco remains committed to delivering dishes true to their roots while offering a comprehensive introduction to the diversity and heritage of Moroccan cuisine to the Vietnamese public.
Do you see the 2024 International Culinary Festival as a cultural bridge that enhances friendship between nations?
We believe that the 2024 International Culinary Festival in Hanoi is not only a celebration of global culinary excellence but also a cultural bridge that strengthens the bonds of friendship between nations. Each dish, from traditional flavors to modern innovations, contributes to the festival’s celebration of harmony and diplomatic connections.
Cuisine is an integral part of every nation's identity, and this festival offers an excellent opportunity for attendees to explore one another's culture and traditions. By experiencing the unique dishes presented, cultural gaps are bridged, stereotypes are challenged, and a greater appreciation for diversity is fostered.
In addition to enjoying the food, the festival creates a friendly space for people to connect. Representatives from Vietnam and international friends, particularly those from embassies, can interact, build sustainable partnerships, and strengthen friendships. This event exemplifies the vital role of culture and cuisine in promoting global peace and understanding.
