STEAMese Festival 2024, organized at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, promotes the importance of early and equal STEAM education for children and adolescents, especially girls – starting at the preschool level. Around 2,500 children and young people aged 8-16 took part in key challenges, including the Coding Maze, the AI Kingdom and Robot City. Each activity was designed to inspire problem-solving, creativity and teamwork. These activities highlighted key skills and competencies that will help them adapt, shape and envision a more creative future.
Attending and delivering the opening speech at the event, Associate Professor Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training. emphasized the development of technology poses the very new things that we have never thought of, changing and bringing better quality to life. The responsibility of teachers and managers is to prepare the young generation with the knowledge and capacity to master the future through mastering technology. From there, helping them to be able to develop effectively, learn better basic knowledge, and orient their future careers.
"We are very happy that the STEAM/STEM task is not only the responsibility of the education sector as directed by the Ministry of Education and Training to the departments, schools, but also has the cooperation and involvement of international organizations, volunteer organizations at home and abroad, universities, high schools, groups/associations in the spirit of volunteerism, which has formed very effective STEAM/STEM movements. These activities are very meaningful to the cause of education and training in Vietnam," Son said.
The event is was curated with a wide range of edutainment and exploratory activities drawing hundreds of children, young people, parents and teachers. |
Sharing the significance of the STEAMese Festival 2024, Silvia Danailov, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam said, "We need to ensure that children and young people are better equipped for the changing world. Employers across Vietnam have found that transferable skills, such as problem solving, communication and creative thinking, are still lacking in most young graduates - both male and female. Enhancing and investing in STEAM education and transferable skills is a key priority for Vietnam and a deep commitment of UNICEF."
“The STEAMese Festival is not only an educational and entertaining event, but also an inspiring step for teachers and students, contributing to their vision to shape the future. By collaborating, we can spark curiosity, enhance creativity, and also have the foundation of a 21st century education,” said Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Mary Beth Polley.
