At the event, Prof. Assoc. Le Thi Hop - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association of Women Intellectuals said that this conference is to share knowledge and to build a more sustainable future together where women are empowered and contribute to the development of the community, to assess the results achieved as well as the challenges faced by women scientific organizations and engineers in the Asia-Pacific region.
Some highlights of the event are the symposiums on health, environment, and gender, engineering and mathematics. They provide insights into pressing issues in science, technology and innovation, and offer possible solutions. On the other hand, INWES APNN 2024 will also make recommendations that contribute to the expansion of the network of close cooperation between women's organizations in the region.
Ha Thi Nga, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union shared that the world is entering a period of strong transformation under the impact of the explosion of artificial intelligence and data science. This poses enormous challenges, especially in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Also, serious problems of resource depletion, environmental pollution and climate change directly affect human health.
She added that women and girls are more negatively affected than men because they make up a high proportion of small-scale agricultural households, living on nature while they lack knowledge and skills. UN studies also show that gender mainstreaming in climate change solutions is not only to ensure human rights and gender equality, but also to improve the effectiveness of this work.
Although facing gender prejudice in their journey to pursue their passion for scientific research, Vietnamese women still affirm their position and role in the field of science and technology. The team of female scientists has developed both in quantity and quality, and has applied works that bring many benefits to society and the country. Many young scientists and female professors have been honored by international organizations such as UNESCO, Top 1% of globally influential scientists, Top 100 typical scientists in Asia, and so on.
In her speech, Nguyen Thi Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, affirmed the role of female intellectuals. She stressed that women have gradually filled gender gaps in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics with their presence being these fields. Among 6,000 members of the Vietnam Association of Women Intellectuals, she shares, many women have been honored at prestigious domestic and international scientific awards such as the State Prize for Science and Technology, the Ho Chi Minh Prize, the Vifotex Award, Kovalevskaia, L' Oreal- UNESCO and many other international awards.
