Asiana Airlines flight OZ7737 landed at Vietnam’s Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh province on April 17, bringing 308 experts from the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Vietnam.
This was a special flight under an agreement between the governments of Vietnam and the RoK to transport RoK engineers for Samsung Vietnam – an electronics product manufacturer in the country.
Upon their arrival, the RoK experts experience medical examinations and were placed in quarantine according to Vietnam’s existing regulations.
They had been all granted COVID-19 free certificates by the RoK authorities and the papers were accepted by the Vietnamese authorities.
The same say, the Asiana Airlines aircraft transported Vietnamese guestworkers and experts to the RoK on its return flight.
Earlier this week, a Samsung Vietnam worker tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. Samsung Vietnam had cordoned off the production unit where the patient worked and quarantined about 40 other workers who travelled with the patient on the bus to work every day.
Those who had come into contact with the patients were also identified for isolation and observation. First tests showed that they had not contracted the deadly virus.
Samsung Bac Ninh is the largest mobile manufacturer of Samsung in Vietnam with the total investment reaching billions of US dollars, which provides thousands of jobs for people in the area and the vicinity.
Samsung Electronics accounts for a quarter of Vietnam’s exports, and the Southeast Asian country is South Korea’s third-biggest export market, and the fifth-biggest source of South Korea’s imports, Vnexpress International reported.
Vietnam has announced no new cases of the novel coronavirus by the end of April 17, retaining its three-month tally at 268 with no fatalities reported, while 198 patients have fully recovered from the deadly disease.
Nearly 74,000 people are being placed in quarantine for health observation, including 324 at hospitals, more than 11,500 at concentrated quarantine facilities and the remainder at places of their residence.
Widespread quarantining and aggressive contact tracing - these methods have subsequently won praise from the World Health Organization and the CDC for its transparency in dealing with the crisis.
Meanwhile, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported 22 new infections on April 16, bringing the nation's total to 10,635. The death toll rose by one to 230. The number of patients released from quarantine after recovery reached 7,829, up 72 from a day earlier.
The number of daily new cases here has been under 50 for the last nine days, mainly due to the extensive social distancing campaign, which has been strictly adhered to by most people since the nation saw a peak of 999 confirmed COVID-19 cases, February 29.
The nation's death toll from the new coronavirus, which emerged in China late last year, rose by one to 230, according to the KCDC.
The RoK's government also has enforced obligatory self-quarantine measures for 14 days on all passengers coming from overseas in order to contain imported cases more effectively since April 1./.
