(VNF) - From April 20th-29th, the qualifying round of the 9th Phu Dong Sport Festival’s region 2 will begin in Nam Dinh province, heading for the final round in July and August 2016 in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.

According to Mr Pham Ngoc Tuan, Head of the Students and Pupils Affairs Department under the Hanoi city Department of Education and Training, the city is ready for the cultural and sports activity of the education sector, thus helping to enrich the younger generation's cultural and spiritual life and eradicate social evils at schools.

Players at the qualifying round will compete in 10 events: athletics, shuttlecock, badminton, swimming, volleyball, basketball, football, table-tennis, push sticks and physical education.

The Hanoi delegation sends the best athletes selected from sub-levels to compete at the festival, especially in shuttlecock, badminton, volleyball and football.

This year’s national event is comprises of two groups, for movement and advanced groups, online registration only. Hanoi will compete in all events, with 383 athletes, 93 officials and coaches, hoping to pocket medals in athletics, physical education and badminton.

Local schools were also asked to create the best conditions for athletes, ensuring both major subjects and sporting activities./.
