During the reception, Dong Huy Cuong, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, provided an overview of the structure, activities, and network of partnerships of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-US Society.

Accordingly, the Vietnam-US Society (VUS), formerly the Vietnam-US Association of Friendship, established on October 17, 1945, is the first bilateral friendship organization in Vietnam. The VUS has partnerships with more than 100 US organizations and individuals, including universities, research institutes, religious organizations, veterans, among others. Each year, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-US Society host numerous delegations of US veterans. They work together on initiatives to address the aftermath of war, including the search for missing soldiers—an essential area of US-Vietnam collaboration.

Dong Huy Cuong said: The Vietnam-US relationship has a special history, from former enemies to friends. The more deeply we understand history, the more we look to the future. The current generation must strive to actively strengthen and advance the positive growth of bilateral relations.

2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States (1995-2025) and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-US Society (1945-2025). The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-US Society, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Vietnam and other partners, plan to hold a variety of commemorative activities. These events will take on diverse formats and themes, aiming to deepen young people's understanding of the Vietnam-US relationship.

The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-US Society are ready to welcome delegations of US veterans to visit and work in Vietnam; continue to coordinate in overcoming the consequences of war, contributing to strengthening bilateral relations.

Tim Peter, Vice President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VWF), expressed his hope for continued collaboration and information-sharing between Vietnam and the United States in the search for missing soldiers from both sides. He also shared his intention to return to Vietnam regularly to further strengthen cooperation in this area.
