Overview of the congress.

The Union of Friendship Organizations of An Giang Province on Jan. 21 held the third congress for term 2021 - 2026.

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga virtually attended and directed the congress.

According to the congress, in the 2014-2021 term the An Giang Union and its member associations achieved important results in the fields of peace, solidarity, friendship, international people-to-people cooperation, public relations and public relations, foreign non-governmental aid mobilization, external information, and overseas Vietnamese work.

An Giang Union currently has six member associations, including the newly established Vietnam - Republic of Korea (RoK) Friendship Association during the 2015 - 2021 term. All the friendship associations have made great efforts to organize friendship activities, contributing to strengthening relations with people of partner countries, especially Cambodia.

As the focal point for foreign non-governmental aid mobilization, in the past term, An Giang Union has actively engaged in advocacy and contributed to the value of foreign NGO aid of the province in the 2015 - 2021 period reached nearly VND 91 billion (USD 4 million), contributing to supporting locals with difficult circumstances.

For the 2021 - 2026 term , the An Giang Union has set the following goals: continue to well implement the Party's Directives and Resolutions, and well implement the "Active, flexible, creative and effective" motto in the future activities in the spirit of Directive 04-CT/TW dated July 6, 2011 and Directive No. 38-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, promoting initiative and creativity in people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to strengthening solidarity and friendship with traditional friends, establishing and developing relations with new partners.

In addition, step by step improve the operation quality of the member associations; regularly create favorable conditions for member friendship associations to expand friendship and cooperation with people's organizations and international friends.

At the same time, mobilize overseas Vietnamese (OV) to participate in implementing the foreign policy of the country, Party and State; contribute to social security, gradually reduce poverty, continue to promote foreign non-governmental aid mobilization to create more resources for the province in the coming years.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga highly appreciated the results achieved in the previous term of An Giang Union.

Nga suggested that in the coming time, the provincial union should actively consult with provincial leaders to direct, unify, and successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress on foreign affairs and the Charter of the VUFO was approved by the Prime Minister on March 23, 2021. Simultaneously, developing programs and work plans, and annually implement Directive 38-CT/TW of the Secretariat, Resolution of the VI Congress of VUFO.

In addition, An Giang Union focuses on a number of key tasks, specifically:

Firstly, to improve the effectiveness and practicality of people-to-people diplomacy, strengthen and expand cooperative relations with other countries to serve the country's development requirements, first of all, to carry out the key tasks of the Government. 2022 is Covid-19 prevention, recovery and socio-economic development. Special attention need to paid to strengthening relations with neighboring countries, major and important partner countries.

2022 is a year with many major foreign affairs events such as: Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year, 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam - Cambodia; the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations; 30 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam - RoK, among others.

An Giang Union needs to promote the initiative and creativity of its member associations, propose initiatives and develop plans to organize people-to-people activities closely associated with promoting economic cooperation, investment, trade, science and technology, education and training, tourism, mobilizing resources for provincial socio-economic development.

Second, to implement the program to mobilize the province's foreign NGO aid projects, increase the use of online forms to connect and interact with foreign NGOs, mobilize resources to implement priority programs and projects to meet the province's socio-economic development goals and requirements, especially programs and projects related to the environment protection, climate change, healthcare, education and social problems solving.

Third, to strengthen the work of information and communication abroad, attach importance to the application of information technology, build and improve the quality of friendship bulletins, websites in dual languages ​​English and Vietnamese to information about An Giang, development achievements, foreign policy, especially the achievements in ensuring human rights, ethnicity, religion, political issues, border, territory, sea and island rights, promptly and effectively fight against false claims about Vietnam.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga congratulated the An Giang Union's Executive Committee on its achievements.

Fourth, to develop programs and plans to well implement Conclusion No.12-KL/TW on the OV affairs in the new situation.

Strengthening connections and promoting the role of An Giang people living abroad in contributing to building a beautiful homeland.

Actively taking care of and support Khmer people of Vietnamese origin in the border areas to stabilize their lives and comply with the regulations of the host country.

Fifth, to focus on building, training and fostering staff and officials engaged in people-to-people diplomacy for standing agencies and member associations. Advising the province to organize training conferences on people-to-people diplomacy. Researching the possibility of establishing more friendship associations.

The VUFO President believes with the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the support and coordination of departments, agencies and mass organizations, on the basis of traditional experience in valuable activities in for many years and the innovation spirit, An Giang Union will complete successfully completed the set tasks, established a practical foundation to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the founding of An Giang province in 2022, actively contributed to the development of the province and contributed to the building of the Friendship Union system.

"The VUFO and its member organizations at the central level will do their best to continue to support and coordinate for An Giang Union to operate more and more effectively," Nga emphasized.

In such difficult conditions, with the initiative and flexibility in leadership and administration of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee, An Giang's economy continues to grow, social security work is getting better and better, helping people with difficult circumstances rise up in life; in which, there is an important contribution of An Giang Union.

An Giang Union has made significant contributions, contributing to strengthening the process of international integration and cooperation of An Giang province. It has acted as a bridge to provide two-way information between central and local agencies, coordinated with a number of related units to mobilize a number of new NGOs to An Giang. This is a great effort to create favorable conditions in the coming years, Phuoc highlighted.

A new 21-member executive committee was elected during the congress.

At the congress, a 21-strong executive board of the association was elected, led by Phan Huynh Son as President of An Giang Union for the 2021 - 2026 term.
