The Austrian Embassy in Hanoi organized a concert by artist Jakob Steinkellner with the accordion instrument in Hanoi on May 13.

This is an activity within the framework of cultural exchange between Austria and Vietnam, marking the special cooperation relationship between the Austrian Embassy, the Vietnam-Austria Friendship Association, and the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Speaking at the concert, Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Hans-Peter Glanzer said that through the "Austria-Vietnam Music Night," Vietnamese artists, some of whom had studied in Austria and artist from Austria - Jakob Steinkellner, bring to the audience a diverse program of performances with musical works from many different regions and countries, in various genres from world music, folk songs to classical pieces.

Assoc. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences, and President of the Vietnam-Austria Friendship Association highlighted that culture and art can convey profound messages, evoking love and understanding. With that approach, the concert is an opportunity for us to enjoy beautiful tunes, and great music and share our love for art together, thereby increasing understanding and friendship between the two countries.

Participating in the concert were Jakob Steinkellner and famous artists of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, many of whom have spent time studying and practicing in Austria.

Jakob Steinkellner was born in Linz, Austria, in 1995 and began learning the accordion in 2001. At the age of 14, he passed the entrance exam for the “artistic basic studies” on the accordion at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz in the class of Alfred Melichar. At the same time, he began learning the diatonic harmonica. In 2020 Jakob Steinkellner completed his master’s degree in accordion pedagogy and accordion concert subject at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz with distinction. In addition, he completed the specialization studies “Making Music with People with Disabilities” and “Diatonic Harmonica”.

Since 2022 he has been a professor at the Munich University of Music and Theater and head of the folk music course. Jakob Steinkellner has given concerts in countries such as Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Peru, Canada, China, Tanzania, and others.

The show ended with joyous applause from the audience. Hoang Thai An, a young audience member expressed happiness because he can go to a concert with his father. The music night took him through different levels of feelings, from happy to awestruck.

"As artist Jakob Steinkellner shared at the concert, when have the opportunity, you need to let your loved ones know how much you love them, through which, I was touched and able to express gratitude towards my father. At the same time, it is also the motivation for me to continue learning the piano," An added.

Earlier, in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, the Austrian Embassy cooperated with the University of Social Sciences & Humanities; Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang College of Culture and Arts to organize concerts on May 9 and May 11, respectively.

Steinkellner with his accordion also bought to the Vietnamese audience a little Austrian space within Europe Village 2023, the largest European cultural event in Vietnam in the area of Ho Guom walking street.
