Happy Birthday, Prince Philip! The Duke of Edinburgh turns 99 on Wednesday and to celebrate the occasion, the retired royal posed with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, for an official portrait, reported the Kmov.

The 94-year-old queen is wearing an Angela Kelly dress with the Cullinan V diamond brooch. As for the man of the hour, the Duke of Edinburgh is sporting a Household Division tie.

The portrait was taken on June 1 at Windsor Castle where the reigning monarch and her husband are currently residing amid quarantine from the coronavirus.

Royals across Europe celebrate Prince Philip’s 99th birthday

The Royal Family has taken to social media to celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh’s 99th birthday. A series of special photographs have been shared on official accounts to mark Prince Philip’s big day.

Prince William and Duchess Catherine shared a series of sweet photos featuring themselves with Prince Philip in honor of the duke's 99th birthday. In the shared images, both of the Cambridges can be seen standing side by side with the duke at different royal excursions over the years, revealed the Harpers Bazaar. "Wishing a very happy 99th Birthday to The Duke of Edinburgh!" wrote the royal couple alongside their post.

As informed by the Royal Central, the official Royal Family social media accounts had already marked Philip’s birthday by adding a new photograph of him with the Queen taken to celebrate his 99th. On the day itself, an album of images of the couple was added along with celebratory wishes.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall also shared a special celebration on the official Clarence House Twitter and Instagram accounts. Alongside images of Philip with a young Charles was the message “Wishing the Duke of Edinburgh a very happy 99th birthday!”

Another rare image of a royal childhood was shared by the Romanian Royal Household along with a touching tribute from Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown. Prince Philip is a close relative as well as godfather to Margareta, added the Royal Central.

The photo showed Philip as a youngster with Margareta’s father, King Michael I, who died in 2017. In a birthday message, it was noted that the two grew up together and spent happy days together in Bucharest and in Florence.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle marks Prince Philip's birthday in this heartwarming way by joining Prince Harry and their son Archie on a zoom call with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

Philip has not been seen in public since he spent four nights in hospital in December for what royal officials said was observation and treatment” for a pre-existing condition.

The “precautionary measure” and unspecified condition renewed concerns about the duke’s health as he approaches his landmark 100th birthday. Centenarians in Britain typically receive a birthday card from the Queen, according to the Guardian.

In January 2019, Philip emerged unscathed after his vehicle was involved in a traffic accident that injured two people near the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Charles is 500 miles away from Philip and the Queen, at Birkhall in Scotland with Camilla. He spoke last week about not seeing the duke, saying in an interview with Sky News: “Well, I haven’t seen my father for a long time. He’s going to be 99 next week, so yes, or my grandchildren or anything. I’ve been doing the FaceTime, is all very well but …”, added the Guardian.
