The provision of the aid demonstrates the continuous development of the two countries’ traditional friendship, solidarity, and neighbourliness, the ministry said in a press release.

Vietnamese leaders believe that under the wise leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodia will soon overcome this difficult time posed by the pandemic and emerge stronger.

The Cambodian Government and people sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their continuous assistance in the effort to fight the pandemic in Cambodia, as reported by NDO.

Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long on April 22 had an online meeting with Cambodian counterpart Mam Buncheng.

The online meeting was held aiming to update information, share experience in Covid-19 prevention and control, and aspire to cooperate with and support Cambodia in the Covid-19 battle, Kinhtedothi reported.

At the meeting, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long highly appreciated Cambodia's efforts in coping with Covid-19.

Minister Long said one of Vietnam’s experience in Covid-19 prevention and control was mobilizing the participation of the entire political system and residents. All medical facilities were connected with each other so that they could exchange, discuss and consult critically-ill cases.

Remote consultation helped Vietnam to successfully handle the first and second waves of Covid-19. In the third wave, although more critically ill cases were reported than two previous ones, no deaths were logged, Long added. Long also said that Vietnam was willing to aid Cambodia in fighting against Covid-19 by remotely connecting the country’s health facilities to Cambodia's and sending doctors to Cambodia if it needed.

According to Long, amidst the complicated development of Covid-19 in Cambodia, medical supplies and equipment are really necessary. On that basis, Vietnamese Prime Minister decided to support Cambodia 800 ventilators, 2 million medical masks, 300,000 N95 masks, and other medical equipment, etc.

If Cambodia agrees, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health will transport ventilators and masks to the country as soon as possible. The Vietnamese airline will transport from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Phnom Penh Airport in Cambodia. This is one of the biggest supports ever of Vietnam for countries to fight against Covid-19.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Minister of Health also hoped that the Cambodian Minister of Health would continue to direct the strengthening anti-epidemic measures, especially in the provinces bordering Vietnam due to the increasingly complex development of illegal entry.

The Vietnamese side would also tighten Covid-19 prevention and control in the border areas. The Minister also thanked Cambodia for its attention and assistance to the Vietnamese community in the country in health care and epidemic prevention and control over the past time.

Vietnamese Health Minister’s leader expressed his hope that Cambodia would soon overcome the difficulties and challenges caused by the Covid-19 epidemic to protecting the health and lives of Cambodians, including Vietnamese living in the country.
