Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCM City presents gifts to Covid-19 orphans.

The Government Office has issued a document asking the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) to coordinate with localities to review the number of children orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministry and localities will also propose solutions to give care to all orphans, as well as comprehensive, long-term and suitable policies towards those orphaned by the pandemic.

According to the document, with the Delta variant, the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections has severely affected the health and life of people, especially households, leaving hundreds of children orphaned.

Departments, agencies, organizations, individuals and businesses have provided support to the children, helping them overcome difficulties for the short term.

Under the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Government Office has asked the MoLISA to join hands with localities to review the list of Covid-19 orphans, and propose solutions so that none of them lack care and support.

Comprehensive, long-term and suitable policies towards the children are also needed, the document says.

In a notice issued on October 18, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai assigned the MoLISA to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to quickly complete proposals and the PM’s draft resolution on a number of policies in support of women and children affected by the pandemic.

The Deputy PM agreed to propose the Government issue the resolution. Accordingly, the support to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers will come from the Gratitude Fund. Meanwhile, part of the Vietnam Children Sponsor Fund will be earmarked to help children whose parents are die of Covid-19. Pregnant and breastfeeding women who get infected with the coronavirus and Covid-19 frontline forces will also receive support that comes from the central budget.

Individuals and households that meet difficulties due to the pandemic and return to their homeland can access preferential loans for production and business.
