“The novel coronavirus was ravaging Vietnam during the first months into 2020. Nearly 40 percent of Vietnamese children had turned to online media such as social media and messaging apps for learning, 38 percent had access to software, songs and videos on online platforms”, Mr. Nguyen Trong Huan, representative of Kaspersky Vietnam said. “This is the results of the increasing education and communication activities during the social distancing period”.
According to Kaspersky, however, online learning and working had resulted in number of users facing virtual attacks (disguised as online learning and conferencing platforms) in the first three quarters of 2020 to increase by more than 1,000 percent.
As the coronavirus is recurring in certain provinces and cities across Vietnam, online activities might witness a sharp increase. It’s therefore important that parents acknowledge the imminent online threats as well as necessary protection measures to shield children – the most vulnerable age – against possible cyber attacks.
Kaspersky recommends parents to openly communicate with children about the benefits and risks of the Internet world, discuss with children about social media, how to brace themselves while online. Parents can also spare more time surfing the Internet with the children to understand them more.
