Children’s Council model makes Hanoian children’s voices heard

A conference recently has been held to review the Children's Council's operation in Hanoi, 2017 - 2020 period.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Hanoi Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization (HYPO) Ly Duy Xuan stressed that care, education and protection of children are for the sake of the country’s long-term benefit and the State and people must work to create optimal conditions for their comprehensive development.

Under the Prime Minister’s Decision 1235/QD-TTg dated August 3, 2015 on approving a programme on promoting children’s involvement in child-related issues, Hanoi is among five provinces and cities selected for the pilot of the Children’s Council model.

The Hanoi Children Council Model Summary Conference was held to re-evaluate the activities of the model of the Hanoi Children Council in 2017 - 2020 period and towards the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization (May 15, 1941 - May 15, 2021).

The Hanoi Children's Council has set up with 41 members, arranged over 300 activities to collect opinions of children at the grassroots level, five meetings of the city Children's Council with 20 groups of opinions, including: learning pressure tackling; school violence; child abuse and violence in the community and in the internet environment; safety skills, preventing and combating accidents and injuries, drowning prevention, etc.

The children's legitimate opinions, aspirations and proposals have been listened by the leaders and resolved in a timely and effective manner to help them have a safer, healthier and more rewarding environment.

Members of the Council also joined regular training courses to improve soft and social skills through experimental camp activities, group work so as to better fulfill their role.

Although the model is newly-launched, its members have exerted efforts to hold numerous practical activities, many good models at the grassroots level, practical opinions have increased. Many children’s opinions have been inscribed in Hanoi’s legal documents. Plus, many provinces and cities have issued policies to support children, said Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Chairman of the National Council of Young Pioneer./.
