Vietnam has performed strongly in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, with only a small number of infections and fatalities among its population of 97 million, former German Vice Chancellor Philip Rosler has said.
Speaking at an online discussion with the Bild newspaper, the former Vice-Chancellor, who once served as Health Minister, said Vietnam, which he visited last month, took a prompt response as soon as the pandemic broke out. He noted that the country immediately closed its borders and locked down areas where new cases were reported. Effective measures were introduced, helping the country overcome two outbreaks and make domestic travel possible again. All people entering the country, with very few exceptions, were sent to quarantine, he said.
In his recent visit to Vietnam with representatives from a number of enterprises in Germany, Switzerland, and Israel, Rosler congratulated Vietnam on successfully controlling the pandemic, describing it as a model for other countries to follow, VNA cited.

HCMC requires distancing in schools' first semester exams
On December 8, considering the current situation of COVID-19, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City asked all schools to review and allow students to make medical declarations and to carry out pandemic prevention measures in teaching activities.
The Department of Education and Training encourages schools to increase the use of internet-based teaching to ensure that teachers and students temporarily stop going to school but do not interrupt their teaching and learning activities, says Tien Phong. Particularly, in the cases of students currently in isolation due to having close contact with the city's newest cases, the schools are required to conduct virtual final exams when students complete the quarantine as regulated.
Previously, about 170,000 pupils and students of nearly 20 schools from elementary to college and university level in the city were exposed to COVID-19 patients. However, as of August 7, Mr. Luu Hong Uyen, Head of Education and Training Department of District 6, said that more than 4,000 students from 4 primary schools in the district returned to school after nearly a week of school leave.
