A ceremony was recently held to honor teachers and students of TED SAIGON School of the Arts (the Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City) who participated and achieved high achievements at two international competitions Youth Friendship Festival 2022 and Asia Pacific Arts Festival 2023.

The program is jointly organized by municipal Vietnam – Southeast Asia Friendship Association, the HCM City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), and the Vietnam Institute of Education Development (VIED).

Attending the program, on the side of leaders of agencies, friendship organizations, and the municipal People's Council, there were Nguyen Minh Nhut, Deputy Head of the city's Department of Society and Culture; Ho Xuan Lam, Nguyen Thi Hong Diem, HUFO Vice President; and Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, VIED Director.

Representatives of Consulate General of ASEAN countries included Chan Sorykan, Consul General of Cambodia; Wong Chia Chiann, Consul General of Malaysia; Jakrit Ruangkajorn, Deputy Consul General of Thailand; Lonphanh Phaodavanh, Consul of Laos; Eva Kurniati Situmorang, Consul of Indonesia and a large number of TED Saigon lecturers, parents and students achieved high achievements in Youth Friendship Festival 2022 in Singapore and Asia Pacific Arts Festival 2023 in Thailand.

This is the third time Vietnamese contestants have won the championship title at this contest, and all three contestants are students of the TED SAIGON. This achievement has left a deep impression in the hearts of international friends about a friendly and talented young Vietnamese generation.

Opening the honoring ceremony, President of the municipal Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan emphasized the culture in general and music and art in particular will always be an important element in development as the development strategy of Vietnam and ASEAN countries or in other words, as part of the slogan of ASEAN 2023 proposed by Indonesia – Culture is at the heart of growth.

Thai Deputy Consul General Jakrit Ruangkajorn, on behalf of the ASEAN Diplomatic Corps, gave a congratulatory speech, stressing that the mission of art education is not only to train performers or composing but more importantly: art education contributes to the development of all-round qualities; aesthetic finishing; life skills, personality formation and beautiful expression in all behaviors.

“As a diplomat, my mission is to build relationships and promote exchanges at all levels, from government to government, from business to business and from citizen to citizen,” he said, highlighting the use of a common language – art. Young talented ambassadors with the guidance of TED Saigon and by extension VIED, will be the bridge connecting Vietnam with Thailand, ASEAN and the world.

The two HUFO Vice Presidents also congratulated the meaningful activities of the municipal Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association and its branches in 28 years of establishment and development, making positive contributions to the people-to-people diplomatic activities, in which the prominent is the TED SAIGON branch.

Achievements of the TED SAIGON branch in the past 10 years and especially this year in Thailand, the students have excellently won the Championship Cup, the champion of the piano competition; 10 gold medals and 4 silver medals.

The event honoring the achievements of performing arts of the Ted Saigon branch with the witness of the diplomatic corps of ASEAN countries today is a testament to people-to-people diplomacy and the importance of culture in foreign relations, they added.
