That is why cooperation between the sides has not matched potential and their expectations, they said.

The leaders also agreed that the major need for the Danish business community, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is to seek broader co-operation with Asian nations in general.

Ullerup underlined that as the Danish Government attaches special importance to SMEs, one of the top missions of Asia House in the time ahead will be expanding the cooperative links between Danish SMEs and their peers in Asia, particularly Southeast Asia.

Ambassador Ullerup emphasised that the Danish Government attaches great importance to the role of SMEs, describing them as, “the backbone of the Danish economy." Therefore, expanding the co-operation network between Danish SMEs and Asian businesses, especially in Southeast Asia, will be one of Asia House's primary tasks moving forward.

Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi hailed the Asia House as a special bridge connecting Denmark with Viet Nam and Asia in general, and Danish organisations and individuals with the Embassy of Viet Nam and embassies of Asian countries in Copenhagen in particular.

The diplomat pledged that the Vietnamese Embassy will cooperate closely with Asia House to expand partnerships across the field, contributing to deepening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark.

The two sides spent time to consider specific measures and plans for their joint work in the time ahead, including promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, holding trade and investment promotion events, and providing information and connecting enterprises of the two countries. This is along with launching a range of trade and investment promotion activities and connecting businesses of the two countries in the fields that they boast strengths in.

They also agreed to work together to seek ideas and initiatives on new cooperative opportunities.

In 2013, Vietnam and Denmark entered a long-term cooperation agreement with the purpose of promoting a transition in Vietnam to a low-carbon economy. It is financed by the Danish government and administered by the Danish Energy Agency. Over the past decade, the program included offshore wind as a component and a workstream focused on developing economic incentive schemes for energy efficiency improvements in the industrial sector in Vietnam.

Asia House, formerly known as East Asia Company (Det Østasiatiske Kompagni), was first established in 1898. Over its long history, Asia House has gradually developed into an independent, non-profit organisation with the aim of intensifying exchanges and co-operation between Denmark and the Asian region, especially in the fields of economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The current management board of Asia House consists of numerous former diplomats, as well as prestigious scholars and leaders from Danish corporations.
