The most affected regions are Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, North Africa and South Asia. The report of the International Labor Organization (ILO) dated November 18, 2021 said that Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei and Mongolia have recorded one-third of the job losses in the tourism industry, due to the Covid-19 pandemic; Job loss in tourism-related industries in 2020 is four times higher than in other industries.
During the 5th Congress, term 2021-2026 of the Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association, on December 21, 2021, the delegates expressed their expectations, plans for the development and restoration of tourism after Covid-19 pandemic.
The Vietnam-Mongolia Friendship Association will strengthen coordination with ministries and branches, further promoting the role of a bridge for tourism cooperation, contributing to the construction and development of each country. That helps to promote the country, its people, culture and potential for cooperation with rich and diverse forms, attracting the participation of people, especially young people, to strengthen traditional relations between Vietnam and Mongolia.
Currently, there are no direct flights from Vietnam to Mongolia and vice versa, so tourists from the two countries need to choose transit flights in countries such as: China (Hong Kong, Beijing) or Korea (Seoul). The transit takes time, making tourists frustrated. The lack of direct flights between Vietnam and Mongolia, not only restricts tourists but also limits trade, import and export of agricultural products. Especially due to the complicated Covid-19 situation, countries can tighten transit problems due to implementing "zero covid" protocols like China.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Doan Khanh Tam had a working session with leaders of Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways and Sovico Group to call on the parties to establish a direct route between Hanoi and Ulan Bator to solve trade and tourism issues between the two countries. In previous working sessions, the embassies of the two countries agreed that in the near future, they will cut or reduce visa procedures, invitations for tourists of the two countries, towards bilateral visa exemption for ordinary passport holders.
Sonom-Ishiin Dashtsevel, president of the Mongolia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that the association will make efforts to support initiatives to develop tourism and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
