Speaking at the meeting, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van said that digital transformation has become an important focus worldwide.

In Vietnam, in 2020, the Government approved the National Digital Transformation Programme by 2025, with an orientation towards 2030, with the dual goal of developing a digital government, economy, society, and forming digital technology enterprises with the capacity to reach out globally. In that context, young people are a dynamic, creative, and sensitive force, mastering science and technology; a pioneer and main force, creating breakthroughs and new values in national digital transformation.

However, the participation of young people in the collective and cooperative sectors, especially young people with formal training, is still limited. Meanwhile, Vietnamese cooperatives have made significant progress in recent times, but more needs to be done to close the digital skills development gap.

EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier stressed that the European Union is pleased to support the project to promote digital transformation for young people in cooperatives in local communities in Vietnam.

“This initiative will create opportunities for sustainable development and capacity building for the cooperative sector,” Guerrier believes.

Specifically, the project will be implemented in 25 provinces and cities through the provincial and municipal cooperative alliances; of which 7 provinces and cities will directly benefit and 18 provinces will co-benefit from the project.

The project will create greater opportunities for innovation and digitalization; supporting 9.4 million cooperative members to gain knowledge and opportunities to implement digital transformation for sustainable development. The project will also help young people access information more easily so that they can become members and workers in cooperatives.
