The Ho Chi Minh city Committee for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control opened the first drug addiction treatment centre in Vietnam on May 12^th, to provide Suboxone in Go Vap district.

Currently, the world is making good progresses in treating drug addition and Suboxone is the most pre-eminent as a result of its safety record for patients and is being increasingly used in many countries in the world.

After the approval of the Ministry of Health, the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control and Ho Chi Minh city authority have implemented pilot treatment using Suboxone with the financial support of many organizations.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Binh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh city Department of Health, said opening the centre was an important step forward in Ho Chi Minh city's addiction treatment efforts.

The city had many programs for addiction treatment and helping addicts reintegrate into society. So far, the city has 13 centers to treat drug addiction with Methadone.

According to an estimation, the city has more than 19,000 drug addicts./.
