First Int'l Trauma Life Support Training Center Launched in Vietnam
The International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Training Centre under the Ministry of National Defence’s Military Hospital 175 officially made its debut in Ho Chi Minh City on April 15. It is the first of its kind in Vietnam and the fifth established in Southeast Asia, VNA reported.
Accordingly, the center is supported by the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) Program of the US Government. The ITLS Program, consisting of five periods, was implemented from September 2022 to February 2024.

Director of the Military Hospital 175 Maj. Gen Tran Quoc Viet said the establishment of the ITLS training centre stems from the requirement for medical staff joining the United Nations peacekeeping operations to hold internationally recognised trauma life support certifications.
Recognizing this need, the ministry's Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, in collaboration with US partners, has been conducting ITLS training courses and instructor development programmes for the Military Hospital 175 staff since 2022.
Following 15 months of training, as of January, Military Hospital 175 already certified 110 individuals, including 34 staff members from the level 2 field hospital No. 5, 47 medical personnel from Military Hospital 175, and 29 others from military units.

Speaking at the event, Sr. Lt. Gen. Phung Si Tan underlined that the debut of the ITLS center in Vietnam contributed to raising the country’s international position in international trauma life support training and intensifying cooperation between Vietnam and international partners in the time to come.
He added that functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense would continue coordinating with Military Hospital 175 to ensure that the center would operate effectively.
At the event, the US partners granted a certificate and a decision establishing the first ITLS Training Centre in Vietnam to Military Hospital 175.
