Flood in Central Vietnam: Heart-touching video of old grandma carries donated clothes on back

A short video picturing an old hunchback grandma carries old clothes and instant noodles while walking with a stick to the donation site has stolen the hearts of Vietnamese netizens. The grandma is reportedly making donations to the flood-stricken areas in Central Vietnam.

According to Dan Viet, on October 20, Grandma Nguyen Thi Thu, 80, head home, stuffed a bagful of used clothes and instant noodles and hurried to the donation site as soon as she heard of the flood news in Central Vietnam.

“I was running errands at a grocery store and heard of the inundation in Central provinces. Locals are left destitute, their lives have been turned upside down. Seeing there’s a donation program for Central provinces nearby, I went home and packed my stuff without hesitation”, Thu recalled.

The 80-year-old was quoted as saying “It’s the thought that counts”, referring to what she considered a “small donation”.

Since I used to live with the flood, I could feel their sufferings. I got many used clothes back home and wanted to share the difficult with Central people”, the old lady with a warm heart smiled, adding that she’s been keeping up with the latest flood-related news on TV and radio.

As the video of her walking to donation sites with heavy bags on back circulated on the Internet, it garnered huge attention. Many netizens expressed their respect to the good deeds, saying she’s got a heart of gold, an exemplary mirror for youngsters to follow.

The grandma admitted she didn’t know she was recorded on the camera and felt happy as her good deeds was widely welcomed.
