German Foundation, Can Tho University Boost Cooperation

A ceremony for signing the memorandum of understanding between the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations (under the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations VUFO), the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF Germany) Institute and Can Tho University took place on March 10.
Nguyen Trung Nhan, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Dr Andreas Stoffers, FNF country director in Vietnam; Dr Ha Thanh Toan, rector of Can Tho University; the leadership of Can Tho Union and leaders of city departments all participated.
Can Tho Friendship Union, Can Tho University and FNF agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation between the three parties.
The MoU will open new opportunities for the city to strengthen people diplomacy and expand partnership in science, technology and business. |
Under the MoU, the parties will work together in projects on people-to-people diplomacy combined with education; a project promoting sustainable urban development and environmental protection; seminars on environmental issues, climate change; and research and transfer on capacity building in the Mekong Delta.
The MoU has a duration of three years (2022 - 2024).

Le Thi Thanh Giang, president of the Can Tho Union, said cooperation contents between the three parties would improve the solidarity and friendship between the people of the city and Germany.
Giang said it would improve the connection between Can Tho's and German businesses, while mobilizing German non-governmental organizations to work on poverty alleviation.
The MoU will also enhance sustainable urban development and environmental protection in the city.
The President of Can Tho Union believes that the Mou will be the first step for FNF to expand its operation area in Can Tho city, attracting many German partners to invest and cooperate in Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta region.
This will contribute to further strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Germany.

Dr Andreas Stoffers, FNF country director in Vietnam, said the MoU will unite the three parties to jointly promote sustainable development of Can Tho and the Mekong Delta.
He also believes that the cooperation between the parties will contribute to promoting economic recovery and repositioning Vietnam in the post-Covid period.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Nguyen Trung Nhan, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho said that cooperation agreement would open up new opportunities in strengthening people-to-people diplomacy and expand work in the fields of science, technology and business development.
The project's activities support Can Tho to adapt and mitigate the impact of climate change, and strengthen scientific research.
It will also provide an opportunity for businesses in Can Tho city and Germany to strengthen trade connections and cooperation, Nhan said.
Nhan hopes Can Tho University will continue to cooperate with the Can Tho Union and the FNF in promoting scientific research and trade activities between Can Tho city and foreign partners.
This will bringing practical effects, contributing to promoting the friendship between the countries, as well as boost people-to-people diplomacy, cooperation and exchange activities and investment promotion in Can Tho city.
