Global Times perversely declares East Sea (South China Sea) “fully within the grasp” of Chinese army

The Global Times, a daily propaganda tabloid under the auspices of China Daily has unreasonably claimed that the Vietnam-sovereigned East Sea (South China Sea) is fully under the arm of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army amidst the US sent two air carriers and carrier strike groups joining in a drill in the area.

The East Sea (South China Sea) is fully within the grasp of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and any US aircraft carrier movement in the region is solely at the pleasure of the PLA, which has a wide selection of anti-aircraft carrier weapons like the DF-21D and DF-26 "aircraft carrier killer missiles”, the Chinese tabloid cited rashly unknown analysts as saying.

China’s military drill is held on Vietnam's territorial sovereignty in the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea) this week. The US’ drill is held at the same time as China's and has been decried by the latter a move that "stirs the regional tensions".

"The US is saying one thing and doing another. It is applying different standards on China's actions than it does on its own," an unknown military expert asked not to be identified told the Global Times on Saturday.

China's Foreign Ministry previously called a similar US moves "flexing of muscles by some non-regional country that lies tens of thousands of miles away."

However, the US affirmed that the presence of two carriers is not in response to any political or world events. “This advanced capability is one of many ways the U.S. Navy promotes security, stability, and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific,” CNN cited a spokesman of Seventh Fleet Sean Brophy as saying.

CNN quoted spokesman Joe Jeiley of the US Navy's 7th Fleet confirming that the United States had sent two aircraft carrier combat groups USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan and a series of escort warships into the East Sea (South China Sea) to begin the military exercise from July 4.

Officials said the US military exercises will not be conducted close to any of the contested islands in the region.

China’s military drills opposed by Vietnam, Phillippines and the US

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs just voiced strong opposition to China’s military exercises around Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands and requested that the northern neighboring country halt similar actions in the future during a regular press briefing in Hanoi.

That China has carried out military exercises in the Paracel Islands violates Vietnamese sovereignty over the Paracel Islands,” the Ministry's spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang told reporters.

She went on to say that the move runs in contrast to the spirit of the Declaration of Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea (DOC), further complicates the situation in the East Sea, and is conducive to the ongoing negotiation process between China and ASEAN on the Code of Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea (COC), as well as the maintenance of a peaceful and stable environment and co-operation in the sea

Vietnam has communicated, handed over a note of opposition, and requested that the northern neighbor does not undertake similar actions in the future, Hang said.

US News cited Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has also raised alarm over China's move to hold military exercises in the South China Sea calling it “highly provocative”.

While in an annoucement, Pentagon criticized the Chinese drills on Vietnam’s waters was "counter-productive to efforts at easing tensions and maintaining stability," Reuters cited.

The movements of the Seventh Fleet take place in the context that China is conducting a five-day exercise from July 1 near the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands belonging to Vietnam's sovereignty.

"America agrees with our Southeast Asian friends: The PRC's (People's Republic of China) military exercise in disputed waters of the South China Sea is highly provocative. We oppose Beijing's unlawful claims. Period ", US Secretary Mike Pompeo wrote on Twitter on July 3.
