Speaking at the program, Do Thi Huyen, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Association of Persons with Disabilities, shared the results of the implementation for supporting people with disabilities in natural disaster prevention and control. Despite many achievements, activities related to climate change response are still limited.

Nevertheless, Huyen said that the development of this database in natural disaster prevention and control will support people with disabilities in a timely manner.

Nguyen Quang Huy, Chairman of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in My Duc district, noted that the project has approached and collected information from many families with disabilities in three communes of Hop Tien, An Tien, Hung Tien and 9 other communes in My Duc district.

The information collection teams worked with a high sense of responsibility, overcoming many difficulties to complete the task. The teams have collected information that exceeds the target compared to the plan, making an important contribution to the success of the project.

"We consider this a valuable opportunity to learn from experiences and lessons, in order to improve and enhance the quality of activities to support people with disabilities in My Duc district in the future," said Huy.

According to the sharing by Pham Quang Khoat, Vice Chairman of the Association, Project Manager, the project is implemented from July 15 to December 15 of this year and has collected 594 clean data points.

The project’ sponsor, the Swiss Embassy to Vietnam, had supported the first phase. Khoat hopes it will continue to sponsor the Association in phase 2 of the project, namely developing software for the whole My Duc district and the whole city of Hanoi and in phase 3 of applying membership management software to best support people with disabilities.

An Effective Tool for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control

Aldo De Luca, Counselor, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Switzerland in Vietnam, believes this meaningful project met the practical needs of society. It is an effective tool for natural disaster prevention, especially for people with disabilities.

The prevention and control project not only helps to respond to disasters but also supports the identification of objects in disasters that need attention. The project is also highly innovative when using modern digital technology to collect data.

"The project has been successful and can be implemented in other areas of Hanoi and other provinces and cities across the country," said the Deputy Ambassador.

The participants of the meeting also share many suggestions for future improvement of the project. For example, Do Thi Hong Nhung - Consultant of the Center for Disaster Prevention and Policy and Technology (DMPTC) said that the promotion of the value of GPS data for association management and natural disaster prevention, it is important to collect additional information and data on households with disabilities and economic livelihood works combined with natural disaster prevention and control in communes and districts in Hanoi city.

Building, developing or upgrading tools to support the Association's work based on the integration of data on information on persons with disabilities on the GPS database, she added. Appropriate tools need to be prepared to provide early warning information to persons with disabilities and provide information on households with disabilities that need to be evacuated as soon as possible with priority to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of communes, districts and cities.
