The January 18 conference reviewed people-to-people diplomacy of the HAUFO in 2023, and put forth tasks for 2024.

According to a report presented at the conference, the HAUFO will work to complete institutions, mechanisms, and policies, enhance cooperation, and put in place relevant documents this year.

It will also change the mindset, build a strategic vision, and adopt new methods in building and implementing mid- and long-term programs and plans for people-to-people diplomacy.

The HAUFO will step up strategic research and consultation, sketch out plans for partnership development, and strengthen coordination with departments, agencies, and localities, thus promoting the engagement of the entire political system in people-to-people diplomacy.

In his remarks, Son lauded the HAUFO for its contributions to people-to-people diplomacy and asked it to streamline its apparatus.

The HAUFO should focus on evaluating the relations between Hanoi and other capital cities in the world, and optimize the potential of friendship associations with a large number of foreigners in Hanoi, he suggested.

Regarding the mobilization of foreign non-governmental aid, Son said the aid should be targeted towards green economic development in craft villages, and the settlement of water pollution in the capital city.

He also highlighted personnel training, saying those engaging in people-to-people diplomacy should be aware of their role and mission, as well as the significance of people-to-people diplomacy.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen awarded certificates of merit to 11 groups with outstanding achievements in people's foreign affairs in 2023.
