Humanitarian Cooperation Connects the Peoples of Vietnam and Republic of Korea

On October 7, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society signed a cooperation agreenment with the Republic of Korea Red Cross of Incheon Province for the 2024-2028 period, marking a new step in humanitarian cooperation between the two sides.

Attending the ceremony were Vu Thanh Luu, Vice President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; Ho Xuan Lam, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations; Tran Truong Son, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society, Euiyoung Cho, President of the Republic of Korea Red Cross of Incheon Province.

According to Tran Truong Son, the Incheon Red Cross Society under the Republic of Korea Red Cross and the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society under the Vietnam Red Cross Society are both members of the International Federation of Red Cross. The signing between the two societies in the new period is an important step forward to promote humanitarian activities, enhance friendship and mutual understanding. It also contributes to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, especially in the humanitarian field.

According to the agreement, the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society and the Republic of Korea Red Cross of Incheon Province will jointly carry out a variety of activities in the 2024-2028 period. Namely, they will promote mutual understanding of Red Cross activities, contribute to strengthening the Vietnam-RoK friendship; join hands to implement humanitarian programs and projects, support the community, aim for peace and happiness for humanity; promote bilateral exchanges, visit organizations, humanitarian projects, attending events, friendly exchanges, visiting schools, and visit historical sites.

The cooperation agreement is effective from October 2024 to September 30, 2028. Tran Truong Son said that with clear and specific goals, the cooperation between the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society and the Republic of Korea Red Cross of Incheon Province will contribute to improving the quality of life of the people and building a peaceful, prosperous and happy society. Thereby, their cooperation promotes people-to-people diplomacy, improving the effectiveness of humanitarian work on an international scale.

Vu Thanh Luu, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Republic of Korea Red Cross Society have trengthened cooperation in the implementation of humanitarian activities, programs and projects, contributing to the common activities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement in the Asia-Pacific region and on a global scale.

The Republic of Korea Red Cross Society has presented in Vietnam since the 1990s, supporting and cooperating with the Vietnam Red Cross Society to implement activities and projects in many fields, such as social work, disaster prevention and response, health care, emergency relief and youth exchange.

Since 1995, the two sides have implemented over 11 humanitarian activities, projects and non-projects with a total aid value of nearly 4 million USD, organized 10 delegations to Vietnam and 12 delegations to the RoK to exchange experiences, attend training courses.

On this occasion, Euiyoung Cho, representative of the Republic of Korea Red Cross Society, donated 100 million VND to the Vietnam Red Cross Society to support the recovery from the consequences of Typhoon Yagi in the northern provinces. This support shows the solidarity of the two organizations.
