The Indian Navy Ship INS AIRAVAT arrived in Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi Port in Ho Chi Minh City on August 30 bringing Covid-19 relief supplies as a friendly contribution from India to the people and Government of Vietnam in their ongoing fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Embassy of India in Hanoi informed on Monday.
The ship, controlled by Captain M. Prasanna Kumar, is carrying 100 Metric Tons of Liquid Medical Oxygen in 5 ISO Containers and 300 Oxygen Concentrators of 10 LPM capacity each based on the requirement projected by the Government of Vietnam in its fight against the ongoing pandemic.
INS Airavat, an indigenously built Landing Ship Tank (Large) under the Eastern Naval Command based at Visakhapatnam, is on a deployment to South East Asia for trans-shipment of Covid relief aid, a statement from the Indian Navy said.
Referring to India-Vietnam ties, the Indian Navy statement said, “India and Vietnam enjoy a strong traditional bond of friendship and have been working together towards a safer maritime domain."
“The two navies cooperate in various areas including a composite training programme in the fields of the submarine, aviation and technical training, and regularly carry out joint naval exercises in the form of bilateral exercises. The current deployment of the ship aims to further strengthen the strategic relationship," it said.

Welcoming the ship and crew were Deputy chief of staff of the HCMC Border Guard, Lieutenant colonel Nguyen Anh Duc; Deputy chief of staff of the Naval Region 2, colonel Tran Dinh Nui; representatives of the municipal Port Border Guards and the Consulate General of India.
The receiving ceremony will be held on August 31.
Earlier, the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam in last month also virtually signed a contract with the Viet Gia Medical Equipment JSC on the purchase of an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine for the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases, with the aim of facilitating the treatment for severe Covid patients in the city.
It purchased using the money contributed by the Indian community living and working in HCM City and other southern localities of Vietnam, together with assistance from the Consulate General of India in the southern hub and Incham.
India is the fourth largest market for medical devices in Asia and among the top 20 markets for medical devices in the world.
Vietnam and India set up diplomatic ties in 1972 and elevated the relations to strategic partnership in 2007.
