Local Friendship Unions Support Struggling People Amid Pandemic

The Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations launched a “zero VND pavilion” to support people affected by Covid-19, while the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City and the German Business Association in Vietnam has given food to help 3,000 families facing difficult circumstances.
The Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) in collaboration with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ba Dinh district and Samaritan’s Purse International Relief on Aug. 28 held a “zero VND pavilion", distributing 250 support packages worth VND 700,000 each to the disadvantaged households in Phuc Xa ward.
Strictly complying with regulations on pandemic prevention, the HAUFO vice president delivered the gifts to people in the hope of helping them alleviate difficulties caused by Covid-19.

Previously, on Aug. 24, Nguyen Lan Huong, head of the Hanoi Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, chaired a ceremony to receive the donations and transfer medical equipment to serve the prevention and control of the pandemic.
At the program, responding to the call by the Hanoi Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and HAUFO, the department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hung Yen province gave five tons of agricultural products; Samaritan's Purse International Relief donated 250 necessities packages; Tran Dang Khoa, an overseas Vietnamese in Germany and his family donated 550,000 test kits, and the Qatar Embassy in Vietnam donated VND 100 million to Hanoi's Covid-19 prevention fund.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City (VGFA) and the German Business Association in Vietnam (GBA) coordinated a donation campaign to help people in need.

Early this month, with the desire to ease the burden many face during these tough times, VGFA and GBA have sent a letter calling for businesses, its members and people to contribute to buy food, necessities and medical supplies to help poor people and support hospitals in HCM City.
The campaign has raised nearly VND 600 million from members of GBA and VGFA, used to buy food to support nearly 3,000 households in districts 4, 8 and 12 in Go Vap, Binh Thanh.
In addition, some members also donated medical equipment such as medical masks, protective clothing, medical gloves and hand sanitizer to frontline hospitals.
Vietnam recorded an additional 12,103 cases, including 12,097 domestic and six imported ones, in the past 24 hours to 6 p.m. on Aug. 28, the Ministry of Health announced.
HCM City, the country’s current largest pandemic hotspot, logged the highest number of infections with 5,481 cases.
The new infections brought the country's total number of infections since the pandemic broke out in in early 2020 to 422,469.
