Lai Chau to Hold Cultural Festival for Ethnic Groups

The first-ever Cultural Festival of Ethnic Minorities with a population of less than 10,000 people will be held in Lai Chau province in October with the theme "Preserving, promoting and spreading the traditional cultural identity of Vietnam's ethnic minorities."

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on August 21, the special festival will take place in Lai Chau province from October 6 to 8. There are a total of 14 people ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people in Vietnam, such as O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Pu Peo, Pa Then, and Ngai.

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on August 21, the special festival will take place in Lai Chau province from October 6 to 8.

Also, 13 localities will participate in the Festival including the host Lai Chau and its neighbors such as Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, and Dien Bien. There are also provinces across the country such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Kon Tum.

The festival's goals are to honor and promote the traditional identities and values of ethnic minorities, to educate about patriotic traditions, and national pride, and to strengthen the great unity bloc of nations. Also, this is an opportunity to introduce and promote to domestic and international friends the nation's potential and strengths for the development of culture, sports, and tourism, integrating the traditional cultures of ethnic groups in the process of innovation, integration, and development, especially of less-populated groups (with a population of less than 10,000).

The activities of the festival aim to raise the awareness and responsibility of the society in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam; in protecting traditional culture, and in building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity. Therefore, the special event helps meet the requirements of sustainable development of the country according to Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW, Decree No. Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party and the National Cultural Conference in 2021.

The opening ceremony of the festival is scheduled for the evening of October 6, broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV2, VTV5) and broadcast on Radio - Television of Lai Chau province and on Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV4). Before the opening ceremony, the delegates attended the flower offering ceremony at Uncle Ho's monument with the people of Lai Chau ethnic groups.

There are many rich and attractive activities such as performances of folk music, ritual songs,s and dances showing the unique features of the nation in each locality; integrated with traditional costumes of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people (daily, festivals, wedding ceremony attire).

At the exhibition spaces, the participants can introduce typical cultural products and cultural artifacts, introducing tourism, culture, and history of the locality, alongside the performance of traditional crafts of ethnic groups.

According to the Organizing Committee, one of the highlights is the exhibition "Cultural Characteristics of ethnic groups with a population of fewer than 10,000 people in Vietnam's ethnicity", which will introduce their villages, houses, economic activities, traditional crafts, costumes, rituals, and folk festivals. There will be costumes and patterns displayed in the exhibition, as well as the introduction of the official logo design for the Festival.
