During his visit, Ly Xuong Can encouraged students that they had made the right choice for the future. He also emphasized the long historical relationship between the two countries, once considered to be like siblings.
In 2014, the Korean education system chose Vietnamese as the second foreign language for the university entrance exam. It has been four years since the Myeonmok High School became the first one to introduce Vietnamese into teaching.
The principal, teachers, and other staff of Myeonmok High School enthusiastically received the Vietnamese language training process for 6 months in the form of an educational exchange community project.
It is said that the Seoul Metropolitan Government will conduct teaching cooperation programs with a focus on Myeonmok High School to develop and expand Vietnamese language training.

Ly Xuong Can, whose Korean name is Lee Chang Kun, was born in 1958 in Seoul. He is the 31st generation descendant of King Ly Thai To and the 26th generation descendant of Prince Ly Long Tuong, who immigrated to the RoK in the 13th century.
In 1992, he represented the Ly Hoa Son clan in the RoK in returning to Vietnam and visiting his hometown in Dinh Bang ward, Tu Son town, the northern province of Bac Ninh. In 2009, he and his family received Vietnamese citizenship. He has been a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee since September 2014.
On December 16, 2021, The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially re-appointed Lee Chang-kun as the ambassador for Vietnamese tourism in South Korea between 2021 and 2024. This is his second term in this role.

He said “South Korea is where I was born and grew up but Vietnam is the homeland of my ancestors.”
“The two countries are of the same importance to me, like my father and mother. My tenure as Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to South Korea is not only my pride but also an opportunity for me to show my sincerity and determination to make contribution to the development of Vietnamese tourism,” he said.
He hopes that the pandemic will soon be eradicated so that life can return to normal soon and open up a new and prosperous future.
In 2022, Vietnam and South Korea will celebrate 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. “I think the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea is more than predestined. It’s like a fate that can't be replaced," Can said.
Although cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries have been maintained regularly, Can said there had not been Vietnamese Culture and Tourism Center in South Korea. He hopes the Government will issue timely policies and increases additional budgets for tourism development. When discussing his plans, Can said he would continue to promote tourism activities, keep updating the Vietnamese tourism promotion website in Korean language and design publications to advertise Vietnam tourism in Korean. He wants to expand channels to promote and introduce Vietnam's tourism in South Korea through cooperation with large and influential organizations such as news agencies, universities, vocational training centers, associations, sports clubs and at major events of big companies. |
