The event was attended by Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, Dr. Do Thanh Hai, Deputy Director General, East Sea Institute, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), Prof Dr. Zarina Othman, Head of the Jaringan Siswazah Nusantara (JSN) Delegation, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; and other scholars from the DAV.

The group from Malaysia are participants in the JSN Delegation (the Regional Postgraduate Network), comprising academicians and postgraduate students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
The event aims to provide postgraduate students with practical exposure to global affairs through learning and strategic partnerships, including engaging with local institutions of higher learning in the countries visited.

In his opening remark, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato’ Tan Yang Thai highlighted that people-to-people engagement is one of the fundamental ways for any two countries to strengthen bilateral relations. Therefore, this event serves as a platform for young scholars from Vietnam and Malaysia to engage on current and regional issues of importance.

Prof Dr. Zarina Othman, Head of the JSN Delegation, expressed her hope that the JSN initiative will help young scholars in the region grow in the next years, resulting in even greater cooperation between Malaysian and Vietnamese academics and institutions of higher learning.

On behalf of the DAV, Dr. Do Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the East Sea Institute, expressed his gratitude to the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam and welcomed the JSN Delegation to Hanoi. He discussed with academics and students at the National University of Malaysia about Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and international integration, highlighting ASEAN as an important pillar of Vietnamese foreign policy.
During the discussion, Malaysian students asked questions related to subjects of shared concern, such as Vietnam's bamboo diplomacy, the East Sea (internationally called the South China Sea), the opportunities and challenges of Vietnam's ASEAN membership, and the opportunities for economic collaboration between Vietnam and Malaysia. Scholars from the DAV responded and shared their perspectives on these questions.

Following the lunch talk, Malaysian students took a campus tour of the DAV. The tour, guided and connected by DAV staff and lecturers, creates favorable conditions for students to learn more about the DAV's organizational structures, allowing them to cultivate their own experiences.
