The Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Industry and Trade required Acecook Vietnam to urgently verify information related to its Hao Hao and Good instant noodles on August 28. Previously, the two products were recalled by the Food Safety Authority (FSAI) of Ireland for containing unauthorized ethylene oxide.
The department said as soon as it acknowledged the recall, the Ministry of Industry and Trade asked Acecook Vietnam to urgently report on the production process and the difference between domestic and export products. Acecook earlier claimed that the recalled products were produced only for export and different from domestic ones. The company is asked to evaluate the presence of ethylene oxide, which is not on the list of substances regulated on maximum residue of pesticide level in food according to Circular 50/2016/TT-BYT issued by the Ministry of Health, in its products.

The ministry said that according to Vietnam's Food Safety Regulations, organizations and individuals producing and trading food violating the regulation would be fined. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation, the violators are subjected to administrative violations or criminal investigation, if causing damage, they must pay compensations and remedy the consequences in accordance with the law.

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed announced that a number of instant noodles batches from Acecook Vietnam were recalled due to the use of pesticide ethylene oxide, which is banned from being used in food products sold in Europe and can lead to health effects if consumed for a long time on Aug. 20.
In response to the announcement, a representative of Acecook on Aug. 27 said the recalled product was an export version, not the same kind as products sold on the domestic market. The representative said Acecook did not use ethylene oxide technology at any stage of production. The company is analyzing, testing, and investigating related materials, equipment, and processes to ensure product quality and safety.
