Naval Region 5 did a good job in foreign and defense affairs at the first 6 months of 2024, heard the politico-military conference organized by the Party Committee, Naval Region 5 Command on June 28, in Phu Quoc city of the southern province of Kien Giang.
Rear Admiral Nguyen Huu Thoan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Regional Political Commissar thoroughly grasped the resolution to lead the implementation of tasks in the last 6 months of 2024 of the Regional Party Committee.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the Party Committee and Naval Region 5 Command have thoroughly grasped and effectively carried out resolutions, directives, and orders of the leaders, comprehensively completing all aspects of work.
Notably, the Naval Region 5 has excelled the tasks of combat readiness, patrolling, reconnaissance, guard duty, and strict management of assigned areas; actively maintaining forces, means, and duty systems at all levels; timely organizing training for subjects with correct content and program according to regulations; safely organizing live-fire exercises that meet the set goals and requirements.
The region performs well its defense foreign affairs tasks; excellently fulfilled their assigned tasks including party, political work, logistics and technical work, mass mobilization activities, search and rescue efforts, and natural disasters combat; effectively implemented sea and island information dissemination, raising awareness against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, along with several programs and activities such as “Vietnamese navy - fulcrum for fishermen to fish offshore,” “Naval troops sponsor fishermen’s children,” contributing to building a strong "people's security posture" at sea.

In the last 6 months of the year, the Party Committee and Naval Region 5 Command will focus on leading and directing agencies and units to well perform military and defense missions.
The focus is on training, combat readiness, defense diplomacy, patrolling, reconnaissance, guard duty, and coastal management; seriously maintaining order, enhancing vigilance and combat readiness, ready to respond to incidents, natural disasters, and search and rescue efforts; proactively grasp the situation of the sea area and stationed area in order to make recommendations, and addressing any arising issues, avoid being passive or surprised.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Luc Duc Tien praised agencies and units for their efforts in implementing and completing missions in the first 6 months.
He noted that party committees and commanders at all levels need to continue to thoroughly grasp, well conduct the assigned tasks and targets; proactively review, adjust and supplement combat documents; organize quality and effective training, drills and live fire tests with absolute safety; closely manage the troops' number and promote solidarity, observe military discipline, avoid serious violations of discipline, as well as prevent safety incidents, especially traffic safety and so on.
Naval Region 5 is tasked to manage the Southwestern waters of the nation, from the estuary of the Ganh Hao River in Bac Lieu province to Ha Tien city of Kien Giang province, which holds an important position in terms of socio-economic development and defense and security.
