Online Exhibition Recalls Memories of Old Hanoi

The Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum held an online exhibition themed “Memories of Hanoi” on Oct. 8 to celebrate the 67th anniversary of Hanoi Liberation Day

The exhibition displays 25 paints and graphic arts with different styles and techniques including gouache, watercolour, lacquer painting, wood carving, oil painting and silk painting.

"Battlefield" by Le Anh Van

The artworks depict the life of the capital city during thewar against foreign invaders as well as the people’s happiness on Liberation day.

The paintings "Resistance war" by Le Quoc Loc, and "The Capital of the Resistance" by Nguyen Quang Phong, "Battlefield" by Le Anh Van capture the hardships and the brave spirit of Vietnamese people in the war.

On Oct. 10, 1954, Hanoi was covered in colourful flags and flowers to welcome the army to the city, depicted in some paintings such as "Hanoi at Liberation night " by Le Thanh Duc, " Hang Duong Street" by Trinh Huu Ngoc, and "Joy of Liberation" by Tran Khanh Chuong.

"Ho Guom in Spring" by Nguyen Tu Nghiem

In the early days after the war, the bustling atmosphere of Hanoi during festivals, or the beauty of daily life was portrayed in the artworks, namely, "Ho Guom in Spring" by Nguyen Tu Nghiem, "Knitting" by Tran Van Can, and "In the coal furnace of Yen Phu power plant" by Tran Dinh Tho.

At the exhibition, people can also see the artworks of famous places in Hanoi such as Uncle Ho's Stilt House, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, Temple of Literature, and O Quan Chuong. Despite ups and downs, these landmarks leave people with unforgettable memories.
